Well twenty nine anglers turned up at Lingmere in aid of Claire House Childrens Hospice and talk was actually as much about record breaking sponsorship that the members had been involved in as it was about the fishing for the day ahead.
With breakfasts under way via Jan and her helpers the banter was flying, prizes and booze for later were unloaded and Colin Cook even turned up with 4 gallons of maggs in pint bags kindly donated for use on the day by a local tackle shop. Well done to Colin and the local tackle shops we had c20 prizes to draw for later.
Rick, being Rick, took the lead and despite a few late arrivals and subsequent tweaking of the teams and pegs for the draw Rick and Keith collected the £17 which was split £2 prize draw, £3 Lingmere £4 Claire House off Lingmere and £8 pools. With three teams there would be sections of three with points for club pride and a trophy at stake with Eggy Ferry, Wirral Borough and Rivacre all having a team.
Draw done it was off for 5 hours fishing with all knowing the Top Lake was going to be harder than the Bottom but with sections to go for it was still going to be a fair match. At the all out it was a close call on both lakes with 'pellethead' Kenny Stuart winning the Bottom lake with 57.7lb from 'fuzzyhead' Jason Davies with 50.0lb and Dougie 'hills have eyes' Walsh third with 46.8lb. On the Top lake it was much harder but Billy Gore (sponsored by Araldite) ran out the winner with 27.0lb from Lee 'do I have to fish the pole' Pickup with 25.8lb and Paul Robb 'I'll sit in the corner and say I've caught nowt' with 25.4lb.
After the individuals were confirmed it was down to section prizes and a number of anglers chose to forego their winnings putting it back in the charity pot....you know who you are and stars you are!
Anyway over to the main event the team result. Rick stood up in his usual 'unaccustomed as I am' manner to announce we had joint second with 19pts were Rivacre and Wirral meaning Eggy Ferry had run out champions with a 16pt total and are TriClub Champions for 2013 so well done to all in 'my' club (it helps when you're in all three!)
Results that matter:
- Prize draw - £58
- Lingmere donation - £116
- On-Line via Just Giving (inc Gift Aid) - £469
- Section prizes put back in by winners on the day - £116
- and the best till last sponsorship pledged off line (due in 30/11) - £2871
Totalling a massive £3,630 (inc online Gift Aid) a massive new record total for us!!!!
Thanks should go to Colin Cook and the local tackle dealers for organising all the tackle prizes. Steve and Jan at Lingmere for their hospitality including donation and free food afterwards. Rick, Keith, Ian Lloyd and Jamie Pickup for sorting the clubs attendees and finally every member who fished and everyone who donated to such a worth cause....a fabulous days fishing and fundraising!

ReplyDeleteJust to echo what Lee has said. Great day, great cause and as always some great banter. Big thanks have gotta go out to Steve and Jan for all they did on the day especially the donation they made. Top top people. Just like to say to the "superstars" who jumped ship and left eggyferry in the lurch " SEE YA NEXT YEAR SUCKERS". In all seriousness though, everyone on the day was a winner but more importantly the Charity won ultimately. What an amount we all raised. Awesome. Here's to next year. And remember EGGYFERRY= CHAMPIONS 2013. Oooooouuusssshhhh.
