12th December - Hampton Fur & Feather

Eighteen fools turned up for the annual Fur and Feather and with Alice Poplars and Oasis available everyone would have a lot of room but most still wanted Alice due to the larger carp and abundance of skimmers on certain pegs.

It turned out that way too with Ian Lloyd making no mistakes off the famed winter bay peg and running out the winner with 36lb followed by Dave Gentile off the next peg with 26lb although Dave was short of carp but made up for it with plenty of decent skimmers. Ian Simpson was third with 24lb off Oasis made up of small carp, blades and crucians. Harry Simpson managed to take top weight off Poplars with 12lb and a section win.

A cold wet and dark day as we weighed in late due to being split over three lakes! Special thanls to those who helped out by not weighing in haha! Dennis, Alec, Trevor, Henry etc

I can't not also mention Ian Lloyd managed to overtake Billy and Dougie in the Angler of the Year and Matchman of the Year to take both titles at the final weigh in of the year. He also won the 2015 KO this year buy winning at Hampton so nearly did a complete clean sweep. I can't remember who stopped him........err me! (unluckly Lloydly a brilliant year though and a new record weight for the year too!)

Result

1st - Ian Lloyd - 36lb
2nd - Dave Gentile - 26lb
3rd - Ian Simpson - 24lb

Monday 7 December 2015

5th December - WL4 Hampton

Absolutely wild with 50mph+ gusts and only two fools even tried the pole, everyone else relied on the method, bomb or feeder. Billy Gore ran out the winner with 65lb fishing the method with maggot towards the islands and into open water. Ian Simpson, yes, yes I know fishing the method, managed to chuck it somewhere close to the far side enough times to catch for 90 minutes and finish second with 45lb. Rick lost enough to have pushed Billy Gore close but the carp knew where the aerator was and left Rick ruing what might have been with third place and 35lb again all on the feeder.

The best news though was despite the unbelievable winds no broken gear bar Stevie G's landing net that the wind broke, not a fish I hasten to add!

Result

1st - Billy Gore - 65.12 (Long 18)
2nd - Ian Simpson - 44.5lb (Long 30)
3rd - Rick Keeley - 34.5lb (Long 28)

21st November - WL3 Conway

Well Conway is not fishing its usual self and the framers all drew the bowl and managed to snare a few carp with Paul Robinson on the back bank getting the biggest with a 14lb beast.

The roach fishing was very poor again unless you had carp you struggled for bites with the top end by the islands only being won with just over double figures and that included 1 carp! Lets hope a frost or two settles them down.

Result

1st - Paul Robinson - 36.10lb
2nd - Alec Rioch - 26.10lb
3rd - Rick Keeley - 25.14lb

7th November - WL2 Hampton

Saturday 26 September 2015

12th September - Old Hough - Bembo

Another one where I wasn't there but I believe it was a tough day with a small turnout but Billy managed to keep one stop ahead of Kieran and further cement his position as no1 in the yearly points chase!

Result

1st - Billy Gore - 33.0lb
2nd - Kieran Smith - 26.0lb
3rd - Rick Keeley - 21.1lb

22nd August - Hampton - Willow

A nice change being on Willow and plenty of space for those turning out in the sun. Bridge pegs or the pipe pegs where the talk at the draw and with Ian Lloyd, Ian Simpson and Kenny Stuart filling them it would not have been a surprise it that ended up as the top three.

The reality was that Paul Robinson and Dougie Walsh who both drew the bottom left hand side but had a lot of space due to it allegedly not fishing as well as the right hand side, they both made the most of the space and Paul caught in the margins to run out the winner with 58.4lb and Dougie taking the runners up spot a fish or two behind with 50.8lb.

Ian Lloyd was the top angler on the flyers with 48.5lb for third with Ian Simpson blowing out big time on the pipe peg with just 18lb (expected too much and overfed it!!). Kenny Stuart managed a section win from the other bridge peg but with a much lower 25lb net.

Result

1st - Paul Robinson - 58.4lb
2nd - Dougie Walsh - 50.8lb
3rd - Ian Lloyd - 48.5lb

Friday 21 August 2015

8th August - Partridge - Covey 6

The day after 3 days at the Glebe (albeit I stayed for a fourth!!!) that saw Phil Henry make the switch from carp to F1's to secure a win with 93lb ahead of Ian Lloyd with 82.8lb and Jason Connah continuing his Glebe form with third and 75.8lb

Result

1st - Phil Henry - 93.0lb
2nd - Ian Lloyd - 82.8lb
3rd - Jason Connah - 75.8lb

5th - 7th August - Glebe

Well this sounds strange writing this so long after the event itself but work and life have been a little busy of late but here goes.........

A few of us stayed and fished a fourth day on the Glebe and the locals confirmed the strips were not fishing well as the Monday before we got there Lake 6 had been won with 68lb and the whole complex bar Lake 1 was fishing below par. Now just to clarify par is fairly high by the standards we have up here in the northwest so here's the summary.

Over 3 days we had 4457lb of fish and had 15 weights over 100lb with Wed averaging 54lb per man Fri 50lb per man and actually Thurs set a new WBAC record with an average of 94lb per man which was 2174lb caught on the day!

Wednesday saw the top three all break the ton with Jeff Grantham 105.8lb from the middle of Lake 7 just sneaking ahead of Colin Cook sat on the Lttle Girls peg at the end of Lake 6 with 104.3lb. Phil Henry had 103.3lb for 3rd from another end peg on Lake 7 (CC and PH in the same car both with end pegs....Picasso and Da Vinci springs to mind!).

Thursday saw the prolific Lake 1 in use and the top 10 all broke the 100lb barrier with Jason Connah in the top section with 155lb just edging out Paul Robinson in the lower section with 154lb. To show its consistency the middle section went to Colin Cook with 143lb and 3rd overall.

Friday was the hardest day with the most anglers on the bank and just two 100lb weights, Paul Robinson topping Lake 7 with 125.5lb of mainly edge fish. Ian Simpson topped Lake 5 with 103lb and Colin Cook topped Lake 6 with 83.6lb (from the opposite end peg this time!!!OMG)

The Ronny Ashbrooke pairs event (which were redrawn after some moaning about the teams and seeding favouring the pairs over the threesomes) ended up being a runaway victory over the Thurs and Fri for Jason Connah and Paul Robinson who in 2 days had 496lb leaving Ian Simpson and Rick Keeley a long way behind in second with a 2 day total of 370lb before the rest of the pack at 289lb

(NB: When I reworked the Ronnie Ashbrooke results using the original draw the threesomes would have taken 1st and 3rd........not that I need to be right I'll have you know.......but I told ya.........the seeding was right after all and there was less than 50lb between the top 3 teams!!)

Wed - Lakes 4,6,7

1st - Jeff Grantham - 105.8lb (Peg 104 Lake 7)
2nd - Colin Cook - 104.3lb (Peg 86 Lake 6)
3rd - Phil Henry - 103.3lb (Peg 98 Lake 7)

Thurs - Lakes 1,4

1st - Jason Connah - 155.8lb (Peg 26 Lake 1)
2nd - Paul Robinson - 154.5lb (Peg 2 Lake 1)

26th Glebe Payments

Just a reminder as we have at least one reserve desperate to get on the Glebe!

You have until Monday 13th July to pay Keith £100 in total.

NB - Billy, Alec £65 as only staying one night and fishing 2 not 3 days
       - Ste G £70 as booked his own accommodation before I did he was so keen!!

At July's meeting we will be drawing the teams for the Ronnie Ashbrooke trophy and sorting the pegging, lake draw and any seeding of anglers to make sure we can share the winnings around.

I am sure you can appreciate 23 anglers, teams of both 2 and 3 (to make 23 work), all seeded, with sections across 6 lakes over 3 days, hotels and peg fees to pay takes a bit of planning so please sort Keith out by 13th July and confirm attendance as we will struggle to replan after than and you will loose your deposit as we are paying Roy and the hotel upfront.

I'm there with H, Robbo, Col Cook and Ste B on 6th and 7th July so I'll do my usual update on how its fishing but based on a few trips already its business as usual with probably less fish on feeder lines and more than ever on pole lines with corn and pellet still doing the business.

I fished the TF 2 dayer with H and Robbo and we had 149lb, 142lb, 136lb, 111lb, 60lb, 40lb weights from average draws

Wednesday 17 June 2015

13th June - Hampton - Long Island

The talk at the draw was had they spawned and with a few regular WBAC stars on holiday or at the races everyone had loads of space and the forecast heavy rain all day looked like it was going to miss us.

For most it ended up being a tough day with no-one being able to really find a line that would keep producing bar Jason Jones who caught small stockies on pellet on the long pole and  added a few edge fish to finish first out the frame with 33lb. Ian Simpson managed to keep rotating a few lines and worked out you could snare a better shallow fish then had to leave it and move before going back to get another shallow fish and these 6-8lb fish as well as a few stockies, F1's and tench from the margins and the deck saw him run out a winner with 50.5lb.

Kenny Stuart struggled on the long and short pole lines but managed to find some corn margin fish willing to feed in 2 and 3 fish bursts and ended with enough to take 2nd with 43.6lb. Billy Gore completed the frame with the late late show finding some willing margin fish having struggled in open water and on the feeder but 39.5lb was enough.

Result

1st - Ian Simpson - 50.5lb
2nd - Kenny Stuart - 43.6
3rd - Billy Gore - 39.5lb

Tuesday 26 May 2015

23rd May - Lloyds - Badger

By all accounts a tough day for most with 5 DNW's and an average of 15lb including a section won with a 1lb eel!!!!

That said the frame looks good and Barry and Pete in particular made great use of their end pegs and well what can I say about Bucketman.......Trev weights 55lb+ for a second week running and takes the win and moves upto 3rd in the Matchman of The Year race.

Nothing more I can say as I was with the wirral raiders with MFS at Rolfs to tackle the munters.......Robbo, Ste B, and Ian S weighed in nearly 320lb taking 1st and 5th in the process and H chipped in with over 40lb in the last hour!!

Result

1st - Trevor Allpress - 56.5lb
2nd - Barry Davis - 44.7lb
3rd - Pete Canavan - 40.5lb

Monday 18 May 2015

9th May - Heronbrook

A very low turnout with only 7 attendees at Heronbrook saw just one side of the Match Lake used but some good weights led by Dougie Walsh with 109.9lb

Result

1st - Dougie Walsh - 109.9lb
2nd - Ian Lloyd - 70.1lb
3rd - Kieran Smith - 58.1lb

Monday 11 May 2015

Sunday 19 April 2015

18th April - Partridge - Covey 6

Result (proper weight details to follow once I have them from Rick)

1st - Steve Brew - 35.0lb
2nd - Mike Richardson - 31.5lb
3rd - Ian Simpson - 30.5lb

A bright and sunny day on Partridge but with a very cold easterly wind it meant everyone sat there with fleeces on and it made presentation difficult on this F1 dominated water. With lots of room as there are c40 pegs and only 20 fishing most set up lines across, down the track and to the next pallet.

Steve Brew had a few down the track but generally struggled until he went long to the next pallet with groundbait and worm and managed to catch not only F1's but also two lump carp (well for Partridge at 5lb). It was a close call but Steve ran out the winner with 35lb with Mike Richardson close behind with 31.5lb caught on the method and on the pole shallow with maggot. Mike was one of the few who could make it work on the day.......many tried and most failed. Ian Simpson ran out 3rd just pipping Paul Robinson and Dougie Walsh by a 1lb with 30.5lb. Ian caught well in spells on pellet across but they were a small stamp of fish compared to Steve and Mike's.

Well done to Trevor........section winner again on Covey 6......its becoming a habit.

11th April - Weston - Stretton

Result

1st - Ian Lloyd - 60.5lb
2nd - Jason Davies - 52.8lb
3rd - Keith Williamson - 48.8lb

Not much I can say by way of comment as I was off catching hippocrocopigs at Rolf's Lake with H, Steve B and Paul Robinson.

Looks like a good match though with an average of 36lb per angler.

The Wirral Raiders did okay in Oxford as well though coming back with a 1st, 2nd and 4th in the MFS match!!

Friday 3 April 2015

27th March Lathom Pool 4

Result

1st Barry Davies - 50.1lb
2nd Kenny Stuart - 43.4lb
3rd Steve Brew - 43.1lb

I can't comment much not being there but the backing weights were very good too with an average of over 25lb per angler being a good start to the WBAC 2015 year (excluding the WL of course)

Monday 23 March 2015

21st March - WL11 - Conway

The last match of the WL calendar had left the league with 3 possible winners and any one from six could be second but as it happened our newest and youngest member showed the field how to empty Conways margins fishing maggot for some right lumps on light gear and elastic and his win also meant the league never actually changed much on the final match.

Steve Brew drew next to the point yet again and proceeded to catch well on waggler and bomb for a few hours until the fish backed off to were it was safe i.e. Dougies peg. He chose to ignore the obvious signs they were shallow for over 3 hours before finally overcoming his illness, going shallow and bagging for the last 90 minutes (blew a flyer there Doug its won the last two matches!!!! lol)

League places based on the best 5 from 11 went to Ian Simpson who chipped away at the fast starting Phil Henry's leading and finally overcoming him at WL10 and neither improved this week so Ian took the title. A similar story for Billy Gore top three throughout the series with his first 5 matches being his best but stood still once it came down to dropping results. That said a sold third place for the ever consistent Mr Gore.

Result

1st - Kieran Smith - 78.4lb
2nd - Steve Brew - 54lb
3rd - Dougie Walsh - 40.0lb

Well done to Kieran with a tremendous weight and showed a clear pair of heels to the rest when it came to fishing the margins at Conway!!! A new PB for Kieran!!!!

Sunday 15 March 2015

14th March - WL10 - Conway

Conway was much nicer to us this week and after drawing the middle peg on the top end bank the week before and winning the match with 88lb of mainly carp from the margins Ian Simpson drew it again and was always favourite but 3 hours in the carp had clearly not read the script and had moved from the margins of the peg and even the roach were not playing as Ian fed for carp and had blown that line. A solid last 2 hours on pellet on the long pole and corn on the waggler though produced enough carp to snatch victory from the fast finishing Ste Brew who drew next to the point as usual and caught well early and late on bomb and waggler.

Rick Keeley stuck to a plan one down from the boulder peg and caught carp and roach alternating three lines all day for a strong and well deserved 3rd place

Result
1st - Ian Simpson - 40.8lb
2nd - Steve Brew - 36.5lb
3rd - Rick Keeley - 34.8lb

Saturday 28 February 2015

7th Mar - WL9 Conway

Wild and windy on either bank as only Conway can be as it whistles down the valley meant the top the top end was definitely the favoured draw. Ian Simpson drew the middle of the top end bank and made no mistakes setting off to catch roach short in the margins and was going well with 20lb of stamp fish in the first 2 hours before the carp rocked up big time and stopped the roach getting a look in. Fishing a simple maggot rig on light gear and elastic but feeding maggot heavily Ian finished with 88lb for what in the end looked an easy win although Ian was left ruing two munters, both looked double figures, that he lost in the last 20mins when one slipped the hook at the net and the other snapped the 0.10 hooklength when it rolled at the net....doh!!!......could have easily been a winter ton!

Ted Neild sat it out in the gale at the windy end, sorry v.v.v.v.v.v windy end and managed to secure a well deserved second spot fishing the feeder to the sunken island. Keith Williamson drew next to the point and managed enough on the feeder for third spot with a few on the pole the wind was hard work there even at 6m.

Result

1st - Ian Simpson - 88.1lb
2nd - Ted Neild - 37.5lb
3rd - Keith Williamson - 28.5lb

21st Feb - WL8 - Lloyds Meadow - Kingfisher

A cold and frosty start left most struggling as again the Kingfisher carp that had been so prolific in previous years manage to hid from most and left everyone looking for roach, skimmers and chub and treating carp as bonus fish.

Ste Brew decided to ignore the silvers and stuck it out on the bomb searching open water and as well as a long margin and snared just 6 fish for the win.......now that's confidence. He said at the start "I aint fishing for litter" and was as good as his word. Kieran continued his run of form and managed a few carp late to catapult himself to second. Dougie Walsh and Ian Simpson finished equal 3rd with mixed bags Dougie having a few chub with his roach and Ian's net consisting mainly of skimmers.

Result

1st - Steve Brew - 21.0lb
2nd - Kieran Smith - 15.7lb
=3rd - Ian Simpson - 14.1lb
=3rd - Dougie Walsh - 14.1lb

Saturday 7 February 2015

7th Feb - WL7 - Conway

A nice day at Conway for a change saw light winds and some sun for those on the appropriate bank. Dougie Walsh and Ian Lloyd shared a shoal of carp and F1's with Dougie losing no less than 20 fish as he foul hooked them...it was black.........Dougie ended with 81.7lb and had scared enough over the bar to Ian Lloyd who had 55.7lb for two great winter weights.

The rest of the field fished a little below par for carp (they were all in Dougie and Ian's peg) but the roach fishing was consistent and with an odd carp showing there were 4 weights over 28lb

Result

1st - Dougie Walsh - 81.7lb
2nd - Ian Lloyd - 55.7lb
3rd - Phil Henry - 32.9lb

The only difference is breakfast is not included so you can a) pay £7 at Longshoot b) go to Morrisons (about £4-£5) or c) go to Pat’s cafe in Barwell (about £5-£7)
- Two nights and three days fishing will be £100

- We agreed to do the Ronny Ashbrook trophy on the Thurs-Fri and with 23 fishing its yet to be finalised but we will probably do something like “base it on overall weight and agree teams of 2,3,4 based on seeding to even it out i.e. 3 teams 4 lower seeds v 3 teams 3 higher seeds
- As usual I will try and work out some way to peg the sections and lakes to have it seeded (I’ll have to think about how best to sort 23 though!)

Any questions let me know.

24th Jan - WL6 Lloyds Kingfisher

The banter started at breakfast with Rick apologising for being late as he had stopped to get diesel......the room fell silent and most anglers realised Rick van Diesel had committed the cardinal sin by getting fuel before fishing and no one wanted to shake hands. Rick laughed it off saying he'd wash em and he'd be fine to much amusement that 'didn't he realise diesel was porous and it was too late'

On to the fishing and a reasonable day with the low sun a problem on the house side and a difficult side wind at times but still able to fish 14-16m. Steve Brew drew on the house side on the top island and after a few indications and foul hookers eventually worked out how to snare a few, mainly on the tip with corn and maggot to run out an easy winner with mainly carp and a few chub and skimmers for 32lb.

Jason Connah drew the far side on the first island and despite being plagued by foul hookers and small roach eventually some carp and chub arrived on the long pole line and Jason went on to beat the pegs either side by c5lb with a 19.5lb return. Ian S drawn on the house side and first island started well with an early chub and a carp at 16m on maggot before being roached out and then blinded out by the low sun. Having come closer and moved to avoid the sun a run of skimmers on pellet was enough to pip Ian Lloyd and Phil Henry to finish with 16.5lb.

Oh and Rick van Diesel.......well enough said.......chipshopped and a nasty slick was seen in his peg everytime he fed or baited up......even the ducks refused his fuel ridden bread......Come on coach you should know better.

A final word......welcome to Kieran Smith who has been out with us a few times already and he was taken into the heart of the club as a new member this week as he peppered the aerator with his feeder, several times landing it in the hole and he is know known as Kieran 'The Cube' Smith. Lots of hints and tips on how to flowed to much amusement as the casting was a bit like dobbing....lets try here, lets try there etc etc.....but all in a good spirit (and before anyone says it just like Simo!)...welcome Kieran 'The Cube', consider yourself duly inducted.

Only one more entrant to the KO 20lb challenge as Mr Brew joins Billy, Phil, Ian S, Dougie. Everyone has until April to weigh 20lb to qualify for the next round.

Result

1st - Steve Brew - 32.4lb
2nd - Jason Connah - 19.5lb
3rd - Ian Simpson - 16.5lb

Sunday 11 January 2015

10th Jan - WL5 - Conway

Well Conway in January returned to its windy self with gusts to 70mph overnight it was always going to be tough for those down the windy end but with only 11 'fools' turning up we managed to peg most not exactly out of the wind but not n the brunt of it.

Billy Gore drew next to the point and made no mistakes showing his class to take 43lb 12oz to the scales made up of roach taken close in and a rogue 10lb carp as well as around 10 smaller carp all taken on the bomb fished into the bowl. Dougie was drawn at the wild end (to suit his personality) and after catching roach quite steadily for a few hours they disappeared (probably pushed out by the carp) but he went on to catch a few proper lump carp down the same close in roach line for a very creditable 34lb 4oz weight from a difficult area. Ian Simpson drew in the 'Bahama's' compared to Dougie at the far end with the wind off his back and despite a nasty draft though a small hole in the hedge was able to fish 13m......that said the fish were at 5m and 32lb 8oz of roach and skimmers and a distinct absence of carp was enough for third place.

Result
1st - Billy Gore - 43lb 12oz
2nd - Dougie Walsh - 34lb 4oz
3rd - Ian Simpson - 32lb 8oz

The WL is hotting up now as the first few anglers have now fished 5 matches and its all about dropping points from here on with Billy Gore just sneaking ahead of Phil Henry at present. See the League Tables tab for details

This was our first WBAC match of 2015 and saw the first 4 Knockout qualifies with the above top 3 plus Phil Henry with 23lb 8oz now through to the next round. Rick missed out by just 8oz but not to worry everyone has until the end of April to record a 20lb weight to get into the next round. See the Knockout tab for more details
