10th June 2017 Hampton Long

Hampton produced the top weight of the year and averaged 61lb per angler. There was no stopping Billy with a draw on p32 he's had a tremendous day finishing with 142.10lb fishing the margins (but admitting to catching at 4-5m haha). Ian Simpson took second from p10 in the canal section with 103lb with 48lb of ide, skimmers and F1's on maggot and corn in the margins having just held off a late charging Ian Lloyd on p7 who eventually found the carp on maggot and worm in the margins to finish with 87.08lb

Result

1st - Billy Gore - 142.10lb
2nd - Ian Simpson - 103.00lb
3rd - Ian Lloyd - 87.08lb

27th May 2017 - Partridge Covey 5

Apparently a tail of two ends of the lake due to the wind but Alec made no mistakes and cruised to a win with 58.14lb with Ian Lloyd taking second just ahead of Brian Fogg with 44.12lb. The opposite end though was tough with a number of 10-20lb weights.

Result

1st - Alec Rioch - 58.14lb
2nd - Ian Lloyd - 47.08lb
3rd - Brian Fogg - 44.12lb

13th May 2017 - Cunneries Kestrel (replaced YewTree)

Result

Whilst its not fished as well this time, the weather not being as kind, its produced the 3rd different match winner in three matches this year with Brian Fogg added a few proper lumps to an otherwise stockie based net to run out the winner with 52.12lb.

Brian was closely followed by Dougie Walsh who did well with the stockies but missed out on the lumps and fell just short with 48.08lb. Rick Keeley completed the frame albeit a little way back on 40.02lb but it was great to see every angler breaking double figures so bites to be had for all concerned.

Well done to Rick for a hasty rearranged venue after Yew Tree let us down at very short notice.

1st - Brian Fogg - 52.12lb
2nd - Dougie Walsh - 48.08lb
3rd - Rick Keeley - 40.02lb

22nd April 2017 - Cunneries - Kestrel

Well the place still looks like a building site with unfinished pegs, half done paths and just the beginnings of a car park but the lake itself is clearly well stocked and interesting with an island chuck for most and will have paths all round, its own car park, features on the island and is being turfed as well.

Everyone has had loads of space with at least 1 spare peg and in many cases a spare either side although all the local info suggested its not a margin water as too barren yet and would be 10m into 6 ft and off feeder fish and that's how it proved to be. A couple of early better fish (3-5lb) on the feeder for a few was soon replaced with a stockie fish race with carp, F1's and barbel between 4-12oz for most with an odd 1lb fish thrown in.

Steve Gilmour fished a superb match and stayed focussed on the 10m line but swapped from pellet to corn back to dyed pellet over nuggets of groundbait over the course of the match and had, I reckon 120+ fish, but 4 proper carp in the last hour or so including an 8-10lber made the difference and he's weighed 73.12 for what in the end was an emphatic win as 20lb clear is probably 40 fish. Well fished Steve you fished a really neat and tidy match and me and Dennis either side were left trailing....albeit you made Dennis pack up early, he kept shaking his head and tutting all match!

Ian Lloyd managed to snare half a dozen proper carp from the windward end peg to add to less stockies than most of the main pack, but his decision to go for these better fish paid off as be took second with an impressive 61.08. Ian Simpson was best of the rest with 103 stockies and a solitary 3lb carp for 56.08 that took him ahead of Kieren 48lb, Jason 47lb and Billy 46lb so a really close pack and its obvious getting a few better fish in future matches here will be required to win it until the stockies put a bit more weight on.

I did enjoy the banter between Trevor and Dougie before the all in about who could chuck where and they had an empty peg between them as well!.......I did have a quiet chuckle as they banged on about it giving abuse and looking to people to take sides for at least 30mins before the draw even asking for a referee to decide and then, as suspected it turned into a pole match!!!......I love club fishing with WBAC! Maybe the venue management need to add island markers if they are going to put all the pegs in.

1st - Steve Gilmour - 73.12
2nd - Ian Lloyd - 61.08
3rd - Ian Simpson - 56.08

8th April 2017 - Hampton Long / Meadow

From what I can gather Long was a struggle and Meadow actually threw up the winning weights in what was generally a low weight affair for Hampton.

18th Feb 2017 WL9 Hampton Willow

The weather was at last spring like for most of the day although Willow and the fish didn't quite live up to the recent form although there were still some good weights recorded.

Billy Gore drew the in form p26 across the bridge and to the left and made no mistakes catching slowly at first on the tip to the bridge before pulling away from the field in the middle period on the pole and eventually decided to play catch and release for the last half hour with 6 decent fish lost to give the rest of us a chance. To be fair we needed much more than the last half hour as Billy had amassed 80.12lb for an easy win.

The minor placings were looking a close affair until Ian Lloyd started to get one a bung in the last hour off p9 again by the bridge and recorded a respectable 49.02lb result that was probably 9lb for the first 4 hours and 40lb in the last hour. Keith Williamson had been ticking away down on p33 fishing to the sunken weedbed and clocked up 40.08lb that just beat Steve Brew who had 36.04lb off p5.

The Winter League is starting to get interesting as more angles have fished the required 6 matches and its now about dropping points for many. Ian Lloyd improved his points score but Billy closed the gap this week and there are just 3 rounds to go.

Result

1st - Billy Gore - 80.12lb
2nd - Ian Lloyd - 49.02lb
3rd - Keith Williamson - 40.08lb

11th Feb 2017 - WL8 Hampton

After much debate it turns out this was a WL fixture after all so Billy Gore will be well pleased having drawn a right dolly in Long Island p10 with the baltic wind off his back he made no mistakes and recorded a brilliant 48lb winning weight fishing up to 19m on the pole......very impressive performance!

Second and third was a close call with Ian Simpson and Dougie Walsh taking the honours but both were all but blanking with an hour to go but 4 carp, a tench and a few silvers for Ian recorded 30lb with Dougie snaring 5 carp in the same period for 26.5lb. You have to feel for a cold and frustrated Ian Lloyd who went from hero to zero having led the section at hour 1,2,3,4 and was still in the race with 30mins to go but just couldn't buy a bite in the second half of the match.

Lowest weight was 10.5lb which on a bitterly cold day was good as a few fish decided to have a munch late on.

Result
1st - Billy Gore - 48.4lb
2nd - Ian Simpson - 30.0lb
3rd - Dougie Walsh - 26.8lb

Members Update

This will not come as a huge shock but Cheshire Oaks has let Rick down again and is now claiming it will not be ready until April (we assume 2017).......on that basis Rick has managed to secure Hampton (Long, Meadow or Willow) for all the remaining WL fixtures.

Rick has also confirmed the 2017 Match Calendar is nearing completion and I'll let you have the details as soon as I have them and will update the blog.

Apologies the WL has been a little disrupted this year and thanks to Hampton we have not lost any matches. Rick is carefully considering Cheshire Oaks for the summer as if they let us down we will struggle for an alternative at short notice.

7th Jan 2017 - WL4 Hampton Willow

After a switch from Cheshire Oaks as the venue, frustratingly remains not ready, Hampton helped us out and with the venue being totally frozen on the Thurs and a rapid thaw on Friday the fishing was expected to be hard.....but what do we know, the top three all broke 50lb!

Barry Davis fished a great match off an unfavoured peg backing onto Folly, down from the pipe swim and caught a few early dobbing before coming shorter to c8m catching carp on expander over micros for an easy win with 95.5lb....a cracking winter weight.

Ian Simpson fed nothing for 5 hours and dobbed his way on p23 to 40 small F1's and 20 carp for 59.5lb fishing towards the weed bed feature. Steve Gilmore took third spot with 50.0lb despite losing a number of good fish, presumably foul hooked, Ste fished and fed corn again to the inside weed bed feature on p31 (I think).

Overall a good day with 7 weights qualifying for the 20lb John Heald KO 2017 at the first attempt of the year.

Result

1st - Barry Davis - 95.5lb
2nd - Ian Simpson - 59.5lb
3rd - Steve Gilmore - 50.0lb

Sunday 1 January 2017

30th Dec 2016 - Hampton Willow

Despite a much milder night the lakes remained solid at Hampton and after breaking the ice we managed no blanks although the carp were holed up more so in certain places and Billy Gore took full advantage dobbing most of the day for 16 carp and a few roach to weigh 44lb. Ian Lloyd managed 8 carp and some roach and skimmers for 27.04lb and the final place went to Mike White who stuck to maggot to the edge of the ice for 19.0lb just a few pounds ahead of four others all with 14lb+ weights so given the icy conditions (it was still frozen solid when we left) not too bad a day.

Result

1st - Billy Gore - 44.06lb
2nd - Ian Lloyd - 27.04lb
3rd - Mike White - 19.0lb
